Sometimes, for no known valid reason whatsoever, my energy is just OFF.
Getting normal tasks done can seem like a huge chore, it can feel like I have cement blocks on my feet, I'm not thinking quickly or remembering things easily, and a nap sounds like the bees-knees although they never really work for me anymore.
In addition to the obvious methods like drinking water, eating your greens and exercising, still sometimes you just might need an immediate pick-me-up to get through the day that yields instant results. I'd like to think I know myself a little better these days, especially after going through some traumatic experiences and depression, and I've gotten pretty good at figuring out when it's time to take action and get my juices flowing again....without having to do a 3-day juice cleanse or never eating carbs again.
I'm here to share the five ways that work for me when it comes to putting a little pep back in my step when I need it ASAP.
1. Listen To Music Without Words
I am absolutely one of those people that listens to the same artists and songs over and over again until I'm over music all together. It can all get a little distracting and over-stimulating, so one of my favorite things to do is play Lo-fi Hip Hop beats or guitar instrumentals without words to clear my head and just simply vibe to.
2. Wear Citrus Essential Oil
Grapefruit oil is my boo. It is one of my favorite scents, whether it is in a candle or my dish soap, and it totally uplifts my mood. If grapefruit is not your jam, you can try wild orange or tangerine. The Indulge essential oil blend in our Love Ritual Kit is super juicy and uplifting, and also one of my favorites!
3. Two Words: Cold Shower
This is one of my favorite ways to get myself going. If I'm having a particularly sluggish morning, a cold shower just zaps away my brain haze. I've always been a little "warm blooded", especially in the summer, so the sun and heat can be a bit exhausting some days. A cold and refreshing shower is sometimes all I need. Cold showers also have some health benefits such as better circulation, stress and depression relief, endorphin release and speeding up muscle recovery.
4. Quick Clean Up
Marie Kondo would attest to this: your space is sacred and the energy within it is powerful. While I can't say I have taken that extra step to throw out a bunch of things that don't spark joy and fold my t-shirts into neat little squares, her message of the home being an energy powerhouse still remains. A quick 15 minute pick-up throughout your house before you go to bed and the smudging of your space and personal energy will no doubt have you feeling all types of brand new.
Sometimes when I'm feeling really low, I really have to slow the heck down and let myself embrace the little things. Often times, I can easily practice gratitude by being outdoors and feeling the movement of the wind, hearing the rushing of water or children laughing. Finding joy and acceptance of any moment, no matter how small, has the power to uplift me and motivate me for the day.
